How to care for your jewellery and Liri’s repair policy
We love our jewellery but we don’t always know what’s best for it to keep it looking its best. Jewellery made from precious metals and gemstones need to be cleaned and stored in a certain way, to ensure you can enjoy it for years to come. Follow these easy tips to ensure your treasures continue to sparkle.
Wearing your jewellery
Take care with lotions and perfume
When putting on your jewellery, make sure you have already applied any lotions and perfumes to your skin before putting on your necklaces, bracelets or rings. Lotions and perfumes will clog and dull your jewellery so it’s best both have them completely dried on your skin before putting on your jewellery.
Keep away from the pool and sea
Although it can look glamorous, please don’t wear your jewellery in the pool, at the beach or in the sea. Salt and chlorine are abrasive and will damage precious metals and gems. Sun cream and sand also clog and scratch. Please also remove your jewellery before showering or bathing as soaps and shower gels can clog. You should avoid getting any jewellery made with any threads wet as this will dull and weaken the cords.
Storing your jewellery
Please don’t store your jewellery on hooks in the open air. Although beautiful to look at, such storage increases tarnishing. Dust will also clog and dull the metals and gems, and prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause some gems to fade.
Treat yourself to a lovely jewellery box
Please store all jewellery in a jewellery box you can close. You can either store necklaces on hooks or in a sellable bag, which will reduce the rate of tarnishing. Keep the clasp end of the necklace hanging out of the bag to prevent tangling.
Cleaning your jewellery
All you need is soap and water
Silver and gemstone jewellery are quick and easy to clean. Simply immerse in warm soapy water and gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. Be careful around prongs or any delicate fittings. Pat dry and leave to dry in an area away from draughts, returning to your jewellery box once completely dry. For tarnishing, simply use a tarnish cloth, available from all good quality jewellers. Run gently across the silver and your jewellery will look as good as new.
Look after your jewellery and it will always make sure you shine.
